Homework: Enroll in Quizlet Group and Create Flash Cards for Cap XII

The other day we previewed Quizlet.com in class and looked at using it as a tool to review new vocabulary words. From this point on in the year, we are going to be creating flash cards for the vocabula nova for each Capitulum. We are going to start with Capitulum XII.

  1. First, make sure you have created a FREE account at Quizlet.com (use your Gmail account that you created at the start of the year to keep all of your academic information in one place)
  2. Next, make sure you have enrolled in our group, Latin 2 (you will need the password which requires that you remember how to CORRECTLY spell the name of the famous Roman general turned potential dictator that was assassinated in 44BC)
  3. Finally, add at least ONE CARD to the Capitulum XII set using a verbum from the vocabula nova of that capitulum and an image to associate with that word. You may also create a definition, but it must be in Latin!

Then try learning the new set of cards and see if you can get the highest score! Due 2/24.

Quizlet.com Unleashed!

We tried out Quizlet.com today as a tool to make flash cards for the vocabula nova from each capitulum we have studied thus far. I found that it was easy to make cards if you decided to use images to help with the meanings. You could pull images from Flickr by doing a simple image search.

We created a group, Latin 2, and then added two sets of cards (I added a third set after school just to get the hang of it). Each term was given an image – some more memorable than others, right Thomas? – but you could create a definition using Latin if you wished.

What I found useful and fun where the games to help you test your mastery. Right now, Rodolfo has the best score of I think 7.4 seconds for one of the sets of cards – I just couldn’t beat him!

If you missed it, definitely head over to Quizlet.com and do a search for my username magisterricard and Latin 2 group. You will need permission, so contact me for the password or ask a friend from class!

RomaeTV Hic Est!

Just launched our very own channel on YouTube, RomaeTV!

I’m going to be collecting videos about all things ancient and Roman! So, stay tuned and check out what we discover. If you find something that you want to see added, definitely let me know so we can share it with everyone! Just look for the RomaeTV button on the navigation menu above!

Midterm Study Guide 2011-2012

Well, quite a review session today! Janmaris clinched a last gasp effort for The Mini-Minimes with a three point shot to outlast Team Awesome for the win! Ok, ok, so technically the school bell went off before she got the shot off, but still…good times.

We only went over Capitulum 6 really, but it seems you guys were remembering that pretty well. I am attaching the Midterm Study Guide here. So, print it out, and look it over. It breaks down the questions according to topics and which workbook exercitia you need to review.

Saturnalia Party 12/15!

Today’s Saturnalia festivities were a lot of fun! Hold on to your tickets because now we will be auctioning off gifts during our party on Thursday, 12/15!

Make sure you bring a gift – you can spend about $5 on something or just regift something from your house! Remember, you want to try and trick everyone into bidding for your gift – so wrap it up good and don’t tell ANYONE what it is. Maybe you get something awesome in the auction! Maybe not!

Also, don’t forget to bring food and drinks for our party, too. After all, what is a party without food and drinks! (I’ll bring the boring stuff – plates, forks, cups, napkins, ice…) Io Saturnalia!
